Owner Surrender

Admitting your pet to the St. Paul Animal Shelter is a significant decision and one that should not be taken lightly. We strongly advise that all family members be involved in the decision and that you have researched all options to ensure you are making a decision that is best for you and your pet.

Step Two: What you need to bring

At the time of admission, we require:

  • At least one piece of government issue ID from you
  • Your pet be either on a leash or in a carrier, before entering the building
  • All medical and vaccination records for your pet(s), including tattoo or microchip information, if applicable
  • That the tattoo or microchip  trace to the admitter. If the ID does not trace to the admitter, the shelter may charge a 4 day non refundable boarding fee per pet, in addition to the admission fee, to allow time to confirm ownership
  • If you are surrendering on behalf of another person, you must provide a letter of consent and current contact information for the owner of the animal. Failure to provide this information will result in a non-refundable 4 day boarding fee charge per animal, in addition to the admission fee, charged to the admitter, to allow time to contact the owner

Important Information

Once you have surrendered your pet to the St. Paul Animal Shelter, no information regarding the animal will be released to either the owner, family or friends. For more information on our Owner Admission procedures, please contact 780-645-2262.
